In Philippians 3:17, Paul encourages believers to follow godly examples: “Brothers, join in imitating me and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.” This reminder is especially meaningful for parents, because our children are constantly watching how we live out our faith.
In this episode of the Everyday Prayers Podcast, Rachael shares a powerful moment she experienced with her daughter while running a simple errand. At a store, a man quietly asked if she could buy him a package of adult diapers. She agreed without hesitation, but afterward her daughter questioned the decision, wondering if the man might misuse the help he received.
That conversation opened the door for an important discipleship moment. Instead of focusing on what the man might do, she explained that followers of Christ are called to show kindness and generosity. As believers, we are image bearers of God and are called to shine His light to others, just as Jesus teaches in Matthew 5:14–16.
The good news is that we don’t have to model Christ perfectly. God equips us through the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—to help us reflect Him to our families and the world.
As we grow in our walk with God, intentional choices—such as surrounding ourselves with strong believers and removing influences that pull us away from Him—help us become better examples for our children.
