In this episode, we reflect on Romans 13:12—“The night is far gone. The day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.” The message opens with the remarkable story of the Christmas Truce of 1914, when enemy soldiers in World War I briefly laid down their weapons to celebrate Christmas together. Though fleeting, that moment of peace changed those who experienced it and serves as a powerful image of light breaking into darkness.
Yet, unlike that temporary truce, followers of Christ are reminded that we still live in an ongoing spiritual battle between darkness and light. Even as the conflict continues, we are called to live ordinary lives in extraordinary ways that honor God. Paul’s instruction in Romans is both practical and challenging: cast off the works of darkness and intentionally put on the armor of light.
