In Matthew 28:18–19, Jesus gives His final charge before returning to heaven: Go and tell. No qualifiers. No exceptions. Just a simple command for all of us.
During my years as a youth pastor, I noticed something funny about conversations with teenagers. Some kids will tell you everything about their week—details, side stories, the whole thing. Others will give you one word and feel completely done. And honestly, that’s a lot like how we share our faith too. Some people are natural talkers. Others are quiet, steady, and subtle.
But Jesus didn’t say we all have to tell the gospel the same way. He just said to tell it.
None of us get a pass on this. The Great Commission isn’t just for pastors, missionaries, or people who feel confident talking about Jesus. It’s for all of us. How we live it out will look different depending on our personalities, and that’s actually the beauty of it. Jesus chooses to tell His story through imperfect, everyday people.
I recently heard this phrase that stopped me in my tracks: “The gospel is best given to you on its way to someone else.” It made me ask some hard questions. Am I teaching my children to be tellers? Are we a family that lives with the gospel not just in our hearts, but on our lips?
Being a “telling family” doesn’t have to be complicated. It might look like offering prayer when someone shares a hard moment. It might be a conversation at work, at the ball field, in a waiting room, or sitting in the stands. Most people won’t walk into a church—but they will listen to a regular person in a regular place.
So let’s keep it simple. Ask God to show you who around you needs to hear about Him. Look for opportunities. Follow up. Offer prayer. Share hope.
Who needs to hear what you have to tell?
