A Prayer for When God is Silent

This episode of the Everyday Prayers Podcast is rooted in 2 Peter 3:9, a reminder that God is never late. What we sometimes see as delay is actually His patience and love at work. God keeps His promises, even when we don’t understand His timing.

After nearly 20 years of praying God’s Word, one truth stands out: we can trust His promises without knowing how or when they’ll be fulfilled. One phrase God placed on my heart—“Give them the grace to grow out of this”—became a gift I learned to give my children, and one God continues to give me too.

This message is especially for parents who are waiting—praying for a child to come to Christ, loving a prodigal, facing sickness, or watching their child hurt while feeling powerless. In those moments, God can feel silent. But as Oswald Chambers reminds us, God’s silence is often His answer.

Instead of fighting to escape the pain, what if we leaned in and listened? What if God is using the waiting to grow something deeper in us? Even when He feels quiet, we can trust that His timing is good and His plans are always for our good.
