On this episode of Everyday Prayers Podcast, we reflect on the promise of John 1:5: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” As Christmas lights begin to glow in neighborhoods and windows, they remind us of warmth and celebration—but they also highlight a deeper truth. For many, the Christmas season carries grief, loneliness, anxiety, or unmet expectations. Joy doesn’t always come easily.
Into that very real darkness, God sent light—not as a distraction or a temporary escape, but as a person. Joy is not something we force or fabricate through traditions or cheer. Joy is Jesus. His birth declared that we are not alone, that God is near, and that darkness does not have the final word.
