A Prayer for Kingdom Creativity

When my daughter was little, she loved to draw. Give her crayons, pencils, or paint, and she would fill page after page with stick-figure friends, fluffy animals, and bright suns shining over her imagined world. Her creativity seemed endless—mostly because she didn’t yet know there were limits.

That’s what makes Genesis 1:27 so meaningful. We were created in God’s image, and that means something deeper than we often realize. Our Creator made us to create too. He gave us imagination, vision, and the ability to shape what’s around us.

Somewhere along the way, though, it’s easy to forget that. The world teaches us to measure creativity by output or success, and we start believing our worth is tied to what we produce. But by those standards, none of us will ever feel like enough.

The truth is, creativity isn’t just for artists or writers. It shows up in the way we think, solve problems, build, nurture, and lead. It’s especially present in motherhood—in the everyday work of shaping hearts, creating safe and loving homes, and building rhythms that will impact generations.

As moms, we’re constantly creating in ways that may not always be seen or celebrated, but they matter deeply. By God’s grace, we get to partner with Him in forming something lasting and meaningful in our families.

I’ve seen this shift in my own daughter. Her creativity doesn’t look like it did when she was six, but it’s still there—just expressed differently. What’s even more beautiful is that she’s learning her value isn’t found in what she creates, but in who she is. She knows she is loved and delighted in, and that changes everything.

When we live from that place of belonging, creativity becomes something free and joyful. Not something we strive to prove, but something we get to participate in.
