The Final Prayers of Jesus

Right before the cross, Jesus prayed.

Not a rushed prayer. Not a distant one. A deeply personal, intimate conversation with the Father—one we’re invited to listen in on in John 17.

And what He prays is striking. He doesn’t focus on outcomes or circumstances. He focuses on relationship.

“I have made you known to them… that the love you have for me may be in them.” (John 17:26)

More than anything, Jesus desires that we know God—not just know about Him, but experience His love in a real, personal way. The same love shared between the Father and the Son is the love He prays would live in us.

That changes how we think about prayer. Prayer isn’t just a place to bring requests—it’s a place to be with God. To be known. To be filled. To be reminded of who we are and whose we are.

And from that place, everything else flows.

Our patience.
Our parenting.
Our relationships.

When we’re disconnected from God, we feel it. We become reactive, drained, and overwhelmed. But when we slow down and return to Him, we’re grounded again in His love.

That’s the invitation of this season. As Easter approaches, instead of rushing ahead, pause here. Sit with this prayer. Let it shape the way you pray—not just what you say, but how you draw near.

Because what Jesus prayed still matters. And it’s still being answered in us today.
