How to Fix the Monotony of Motherhood

Did you know…

The average mom changes 2,008 diapers per year…
Washes 192 loads of laundry every year…

She generally provides the majority of the meals her family eats, is in charge of homework, plans the family outings, keeps the family schedule, and in many cases, is in charge of the spiritual health of her family. We’re not trying to knock the role of dads. In a lot of homes, he shares the burden in significant, deeply meaningful ways. The point is that moms often find themselves doing the same things over and over and over and over and……….. you get the point.

This monotony can be a source of stress, frustration, and boredom. But it can also be the perfect place to deepen your relationship with God, and use the time He’s given you to pray for your children.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to be a praying mom.

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine…a mature woman of God whose life and ministry I hold in high esteem…about prayer. I was telling her about Million Praying Moms, and the work we’re doing here for the Kingdom. And in the middle of our time together she stopped me and said, “Brooke, I have to confess that I struggle with prayer myself. I want to pray. I just don’t often know what or how to pray.”

You might think I was shocked. I wasn’t. Over the years I’ve heard this same confession many, many times. Enough times to know that many, many moms struggle with knowing how or what to pray. I struggled in my own motherhood for several years. In the beginning, with two young boys born 23 months apart, the only thing I knew to pray was, “Help me, Jesus!” Turns out it was enough to point me in the right direction and start a lifelong love of inviting Jesus into the moments of my day.

I wish I had possessed a deeper prayer well, if you will, but God heard those cries for help sure as He hears yours, mom, and He specializes in taking nothing and making it into something. All it really takes to invite the holy into the mundane is a mom who will ask, or, if you’re like me, beg.
