Find Hope By Getting to Know the Attributes of God

Becoming familiar with God’s attributes (qualities, characteristics) is helping me to know the God I serve, and it is enabling me to relate to Him in a more informed and relational way.

In any relationship it is important that we get to know the person we are in a relationship with. The more we get to know about them—how they think, and what their personality is like—the closer a relationship we will have. The same goes in our relationship with God. The more we get to know Him for who He is and what He does, the closer and more dependent and trusting relationship will be developed.

This is the first of a 6 part series of posts that I will be writing that will share about the attributes of God, some scripture passages that talk about each particular attribute, and how these attributes of God are there for us even as weary moms!

GOD IS:

1. ATTENTIVE

God hears and responds to the needs of His children (1 Kings 9:3; Jeremiah 29:12; Psalm 69:33; Proverbs 15:29; John 9:31; Psalm 4:3)

2. COMPASSIONATE

God cares for His children and acts on their behalf (Psalm 86:15; Lamentations 3:22-23; Psalm 78:38-39; Psalm 147:3; Ephesians 4:32; Psalm 103:13

3. CREATOR

God made everything he is uncreated. (Genesis1:1-31; Hebrews11:3; Colossians1:16; John1:1-51; Psalm90:2)

4. DELIVERER

God rescues and saves his children. (2 Samuel 22:2; Psalm 18:2; Psalm 40:17; Psalm 70:5; Psalm 144:2; Proverbs 21:31; Jeremiah 30:7)

God is not limited by and exists outside of time. (Psalm 90:2; Psalm 102:25-27; Revelation 1:8; Romans 6:23; John 1:1; 1 Corinthians 8:6)

SOMETHING TO PRAY

Father, You are God! As I continue getting to know You I am in awe of Who You are and that I have the privilege of knowing You and serving You! You are ETERNAL! You are without beginning or end and are unrestricted by all succession of time. It is amazing that You, the God Who is eternal, has extended Yourself throughout eternity to all mankind — including me! You are the CREATOR and everything that is in existence brings You glory because You created everything. It is amazing to me that the eternal God who is the creator of everything has taken the time to draw me to Himself and that He is interested in me. Thank You for being an interested and involved Father! You are ATTENTIVE! You know and understand my thoughts, You look ahead and search my paths, and You know me better than I know myself. You are what will get me through difficult times because You know and see what I am going through, and You guide me every step of the way. Thank You for being a God who is COMPASSIONATE! Because of Your great compassion and mercy found in the person and work of Jesus Christ, all sinners are given hope. But Your compassion also reaches into my life on a daily basis. When I am needy and need help, Your compassionate heart hears my cry and is there for me. You care. You help. Thank you! Thank You for being my Rescuer and my Savior! You are a God who is a DELIVERER! You loved Your creation enough to want deliver us from sin & death and You also have delivered us to life.

Being reminded of the kind of God I serve gives me hope when I am weary. He cares about me, my family, and my individual children. He created us. He sees us. He knows us. He cares about us. And He will deliver us!

Thank you, Father God!
