They crept carefully and quietly across the carpeted floor of the bedroom, blankets tied around their necks like superhero capes, until they got to the door frame and came to a complete stop. Slowly, my rambunctious boys peeked their heads around the corner, hoping to catch a glimpse of their adversary, their mortal enemy, Sin. But the supervillain they expected to see wasn’t there. In fact, nothing at all lurked behind the door waiting to pounce on them and they were a little bit disappointed, deflated even. There would be no fierce battle of the ages today and I could see the question in their eyes as they turned to look at me still sitting on the far side of the room where we just had a Bible study lesson on Cain and Abel. “Where,” they wondered “was this crouching foe that desired to harm them, harm their family?” I laughed, overjoyed and emotional about how seriously they had taken the words of our passage today.
