Part of trusting God is believing that He will finish what He started. There’s every evidence in the Bible that this is Who He is (Hebrews 12:2, Phil 1:5-6). It’s a part of His unchanging character, so it’s going to happen…the finishing.

The hard part is waiting on the finishing, because while God is most definitely a finisher, there’s no promise of any certain time table, or even that we’ll see His finishing hand this side of heaven (Hebrews 11:13).

But there’s good news! The finishing comes with a promise of refreshing! God may ask us to wait and pray for something we never see with our own eyes, but if we choose to keep our eyes on Him, He will restore our souls, and lead us in paths of righteousness FOR HIS NAME’S SAKE (Psalm 23:3, emphasis mine). Gina Smith first pointed this out to me, so she deserves the credit for this thought: We can trust God to restore us, refresh us, perfect our faith, and sustain us in the waiting because it brings glory to Him to do so.

That’s another of the unchanging character traits of our God…He WILL glorify Himself, and He WILL provide His people with restoration and refreshment to do it…while we’re waiting.

Be encouraged, friends. God is at work in you and your loved ones today, even if you can’t see it.
