Several year ago, my husband and I walked through a very painful set of circumstances. In fact, what we went through ranks up there as one of the most painful things we’ve ever been through. Throughout the months that followed, we were confronted by the pain over and over, up and down, like waves of discouragement throughout the seasons. It began to feel like we were on a roller coaster of emotions, and I didn’t like the ride.
One day, as I saw the signs of an impending downward swing, I had an epiphany. As I was poised at the top of the roller-coaster tracks in that slow-motion moment just before the train takes a terrifying plunge, I felt like the Lord spoke to my heart.
He said, “Just get off.”
Just get off. Choose not to take that ride anymore. Let’s do something different.
That day, I wrote in my own prayer journal (the one that is now Everyday Prayers for Peace), “No matter what happens in my life…regardless of whether this circumstance ever changes, ever heals…I have peace in my relationship with Jesus. HE IS MY PEACE. I don’t have to wait until the ride is over to get peace. I can choose to step off the ride and clasp the arm of the true Source of my peace right now.
I’m choosing Him.”
I don’t know what might be causing you to experience a lack of peace today, friend, but I do know you can step off the ride with me, and choose to pursue your true Source of peace…the kind that never changes.
