Anxiety can creep into our lives when we least expect it—both for us and for our children. In moments like these, Scripture offers a powerful reminder of where true peace is found. Philippians 4:6–7 encourages us not to be anxious, but instead to bring everything to God through prayer, petition, and thanksgiving. When we do, God promises a peace that goes beyond our understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Today’s prayer reminds us that gratitude plays a key role in this promise. Thanksgiving shifts our focus away from our worries and back to the One who is truly in control. It reminds us that God has been faithful before—and that faithfulness gives us hope for what lies ahead.
The Psalms beautifully model this practice. In Psalm 34, David praises God in the midst of difficulty, recalling how the Lord heard his prayers and freed him from fear. As David remembers God’s past faithfulness, he strengthens his trust in God’s continued care. When we thank God—even during hard times—we experience the same effect. Gratitude helps us find peace not through our own strength, but by remembering God’s.
Gratitude doesn’t erase life’s challenges, but it does help us see them through the lens of God’s faithfulness. When we intentionally count our blessings, we often discover far more of them than we expected.
